A 26-year-old Delhi High Court lawyer was left with a black eye after being assaulted by a group of 10 to 15 men in a hotel at south Delhi’s Chhatarpur. The accused are yet to be nabbed, police said on Saturday.

Aranyak Pathak of Tilak Marg underwent treatment at the AIIMS trauma centre.
“He also sustained bruises on lower back, right eyebrow, below right eye, left elbow and right cheek,” a police officer said.

The attack took place when Aranyak was attending a party at Lily White Hotel on Wednesday.

“It all began when he was allegedly pushed and abused verbally by an person at the hotel’s bar,” the officer added.

Aranyak tried to avoid the person, but he kept abusing him, and instigated his friends to join.

“He alleged that the accused was accompanied by 10 to 15 men, who started beating him up,” the officer said.

Later, few people tried to pacify the situation, and Aranyak also requested them to leave him. However, the accused continued assaulting him and threatened to kill.
Others at the hotel intervened on seeing the situation getting out of control, and separated Aranyak from the clutches of the attackers.

“I managed to get away and started walking away from the venue. They kept following me and told me to wait outside the venue,” Aranyak told police.

Aranyak left the hotel and was looking for an autorickshaw when he was approached by the group again.

“He claimed that he was assaulted again near the hotel’s parking area,” the officer added.

The group left after sometime following which Aranyak took an autorickshaw and reached the AIIMS trauma centre.

A case of attempt to commit culpable homicide, wrongful restraint and criminal intimidation has been lodged over Aranyak’s statement with police.

Aranyak also lost his wallet during the assault. It contained his Bar Council of India and Delhi High Court Bar Association identity cards and
Rs 5,000 in cash.
