Where the Gods abide happily

Last Updated 01 April 2013, 18:57 IST

Yatra naaryastu pujyante ramante tatra devataah-  Yatraitaastu na poojyante sarvaastatraaphalaa kriyaah’- where women are propitiated and respected there the Gods abide happily - where they are not honoured and respected, no prayers or rituals will bear fruit - this religio-spiritual axiom ruled our country of Bharat, where values and scriptural wealth are deep rooted.

Women were always considered as divine manifestation and symbols of virtue and modesty and icon of strong values. In today’s world, that very woman’s existence is becoming a big question mark – right from female foeticide to rape to murder – everything is going against her safety.

Some men are turning diabolical and carnally devilish – they are ready to pounce on a woman/child/infant to ‘rape’ her….to satiate their callous, gargantuan, pervert sexual appetite.  We hear news of rape, sexual assault, sodomy and injury to both physical and emotional health of women.

“The scene of crime, gore and violence is so over-powering in our society, it makes more particularly women, feel as though they are treading constantly on hostile territory. Women feel tense, alert, anxious and scared, and the world around is expecting them to be strong, logical, courageous and practical.

Their minds and bodies literally strain under stress. Nobody is immune or isolated from the problems of society, but if women know the reality and equip themselves with some self-defense techniques, self-protection methods and safety tips, that will put them in an advantageous position and help them to counter the chilling scene of everyday crime.”

Parents, instead of wallowing in the thought that it is a ‘girl’ and that the responsibilities are humongous, must help their daughters understand the world better, must equip them with emotional, physical strength to be able to face any untoward incident in life.

Why women/girls become easy targets for acts of crime and violence, how to get out of such situations unharmed, what are the physical defenses of a woman, and how to keep the ‘red light of alertness’ always ‘on’ in the mind – these points have to be taught to girl-children right from their vernal, impressionable tender years.

“Women were created from the rib of man to be beside him - not from his head to top him, nor from his feet to be trampled by him, but from under his arm to be protected by him, near to his heart to be loved by him.” Let every man, as a father, brother, husband, friend, well-wisher give woman a world where she is safe, where she is happy, where she is productive, where she is loved.

"A woman's highest calling is to lead a man to his soul, so as to unite him with Source. A man's highest calling is to protect woman, so she is free to walk the earth unharmed. May the diabolical faction of rapists and sadists get annihilated forever.
