When Cupid strikes and one’s heart goes aflutter, trust the beau to adopt devious ways to woo his girl. So did our Romeo from Ranchi who donned the garb of an Isro scientist to win over the affection of his childhood sweetheart. However, his guise exposed, the man only landed in jail.

Murshid Akmal, 23, from Ranchi, who successfully passed himself off as an Isro scientist and rode around the City in a car marked the ‘Government of India’ for two months to impress Vani (name changed), a B-Tech graduate, and also won over her trust, ran out of luck when his cheque bounced.

Akmal hit upon this idea when he sighted Vani’s profile on a social networking site and sought to rekindle their romance. But with Vani, much educated and fearing he would lose her, he donned the Isro scientist role. When Vani informed Murshid she would be in Bangalore for her project work, an overzealous Murshid saw an opportunity of meeting her in person, assuring her of arranging accommodation.

He arrived in Bangalore to establish his fake profile of an Isro project scientist, pasting government insignias and logos on a rented car, besides creating fake Isro badges to give it a touch of authencity which worked wonders and also won over Vani, her parents and friends.

However, his plans misfired when his funds dried up and on being confronted by his landlord had to issue a cheque without sufficient balance. The landlord complained to the police who traced Akmal to his actual house on Suranjan Das Road, HAL, and arrested him. The police are subjecting him to further interrogation to see if he had gained access to the Isro facility.
