Mamata admitted to private clinic in Kolkata

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was today admitted to a premier private clinic here with complaints of pain, breathing problem and palpitation and advised rest, shortly after returning from Delhi.

The chief minister was driven straight to the Belle Vue Clinic from the airport and was admitted at 4:35 pm and was being examined by a medical team, clinic sources said.
The decision to admit her was taken after the chief minister complained of pain on both shoulder joints, neck, back mainly over left lumbo sacral region and left knee joints, the sources said.

"She also complained of a breathing problem and palpitation. She has low blood pressure and low pulse rate," they said.

They said the chief minister needed rest and analgesics and close monitoring.

Banerjee was examined yesterday by doctors at AIIMS in Delhi who advised her to get admitted for observation, the sources said.

The condition of Banerjee was being monitored by a medical team, including orthopaedician S Das, and a plan for further investigation was chalked out.

Earlier in the day, the chief minister cancelled a meeting with Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram in Delhi hand returned here.

SFI members had blocked the chief minister's passage in the Planning Commission in Delhi yesterday and manhandled Finance Minister Amit Mitra while they were going to attend a meeting.

The chief minister subsequently fell ill and was administered oxygen while Mitra was put under observation at AIIMS.
