JOIN US73 take ill post Ugadi celebrations in Jakkalli
As many as 73 people in Jakkalli village of H D Kote taluk have been treated of ailments, caused either by food poisoning or water contamination from April 11 till date.
On Tuesday, six cases of diarrhoea and two cases of gastroenteritis were reported. However all the patients are said to be recovering. A team of health officials have also been deputed in the village.
Dr Somashekar, Cholera Control Officer said that the cases have been reported on and after the festivities of Ugadi.
Three diarrhoea cases were reported on April 11. Though no cases were reported on April 12, April 13 witnessed 10 diarrhoea, four vomiting and three gastroenteritis cases. As many as 15 cases of gastroenteritis cases were reported on April 14. On April 15, 18 cases of mild diarrhoea, four cases of vomiting and three cases of mild diarrhoea were reported. On Tuesday, five to six cases of diarrhoea and two gastroenteritis are said to have been reported.
Somashekar said that eating improperly cooked non-vegetarian food during Ugadi festivities might have triggered digestion related ailments on a section of people in the village.
Analysis
Samples of stool and water have been sent to district laboratories for analysis.
Following health problems encountered by the people of the village, water stored in three overhead tanks have been drained and cleaned. Water chlorination was also done, said Dr Ravi L, Taluk Health Officer of H D Kote taluk.
Somashekar said that panchayats were not following the suggestions of the department of health and family welfare. “We have instructed panchayats to clean overhead tanks at least once a month. It is their responsibility. However, panchayats have failed in it,” he said. We have advised the villagers to drink boiled water only. Panchayats are advised to supply chlorinated water for drinking, he said.
