Affidavit on ward reservation sought

Last Updated 27 October 2009, 19:43 IST

“This is nothing but a ploy to delay the elections. If you cannot do it (prepare the list), then we will give the chart,” Justice H N Nagamohan Das said while hearing a petition filed by Ramakrishna Pai seeking quashing of the guidelines.

The court later directed the BBMP to file an affidavit on Wednesday on the population particulars in each of the wards. Rejecting the plea of the respondent (BBMP) seeking a day’s time, the Court said that the affidavit should contain details regarding SC/ST population and the number of women of these categories, in each ward. The petitioner’s counsel argued that the BBMP’s method of reserving seats by identifying the Assembly constituency which has the most number of SC/STs was not permissible either under the Karnataka Municipal Corporation Act or the Constitution.

Gottigere lake

The High Court has directed the Zonal Chief Engineer of Public Works Department to file an affidavit stating that its order banning construction of NICE road on Gottigere has not been violated.

S V Vijay Raghavan has filed a contempt petition alleging that the work across the lake has been going on despite the High Court’s order to the contrary, issued on September 24.
Principal Secretary of Commerce and Industries dept had filed an affidavit stating that the work across the lake has been stopped in pursuance of the HC order. As the petitioner has disputed this claim,a division bench comprising Justice Manjula Chellur and Justice Jawad Rahim has sought an affidavit from the PWD Chief Engineer.
