Celebrating the art of dancing

India Habitat Centre in association with Sadhya, a unit of performing arts celebr­ated World Dance Day under the artistic direction of Santosh Nair, with a unique dance experience titled, ‘No Boundaries’. More than 90 odd national and international dancers and from different genres came together to perform at the Plaza Steps at IHC and enthralled audiences with their diverse dancing styles. 

Presenting an eclectic mix of traditional, classical and contemporary dancing styles, the experimental piece brought together simultaneous performances by various dance companies and individual artistes too. Talking to Metrolife after the event was Nalini Sharma, executive producer of Sadhya. “This was an attempt to bring together both eminent and upcoming dancers and choreographers, blending all the styles, energy and expertise together. This was also an amalgamation of gurus and their disciples, who came together on one platform.”

The concept was to bring the whole dance community together and give a platform to budding choreographer and artistes. The event saw some wonderful Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi, Odissi, Kathak, contemporary ballets and western contemporary performances by various dancers. It also gave a platform for the disciples to get inspired and learn from their respective gurus.

 Some of the artistes and companies who were an integral part of this celebration were Padma Bhushan Guru Saroja Vaidyanathan and group (Bharatanatyam), Guru Rajendra Gangani and group (Kathak), Padmashri Guru Ranjana Gauhar and group (Odissi), Padmashri Jayarama Rao and Padmashri Vanashree Rao (Kuchipudi) Sadhya (contemporary dance based on Mayurbhanj Chhau), Emily and Leah (USA) Delhi Dance Theatre-Ballet, contemporary, Nikolina Nikoleski (Croatia), western contemporary, Contemporary by Bhavini Misra from Urshilla Dance Company, experimental dance by Vijay Rawat from Dance Rulz, contemporary dance by Atul Jindal and Karan Kumar from Big Dance Centre-Western.
