Child killed in accident

Devendra, 3, was killed after being hit by a speeding van at Ramachandrapuram on Wednesday afternoon.

The accident occurred when the boy was playing with other children on the road in front of his house. The van struck the boy with such force that he was flung into an adjacent gutter. Although rushed to a nearby private hospital, he was declared brought dead.

The van driver fled the scene of accident, Hebbal traffic police said. Devendra’s parents Dhananjay and Cauvery had come to Bangalore six months ago in search of work and had been employed as coolies.

Housewife ends life

A housewife was found hanging dead at her house in Ranganathapuram on Thursday afternoon. Lakshmi, 33, was a native of Nagamangala, Mandya district.

Lakshmi had married Sridhar, a cab driver, also from Nagamangala, 12 years ago. The couple had two daughters, Harshitha, 11 and Sneha, 6.

The children were away at their grandmother’s home in Nagamangala for summer vacation when Lakshmi ended her life. According to Kamakshipalya Police, the couple had developed marital problems recently and Sridhar was living separately for the last three months.

Lakshmi’s death was discovered by neighbours who found her hanging from the ceiling fan in the hall.
