Ex-servicemen held at recruitment rally

» Two ex-servicemen, I Murugan and S Kuppusamy, were nabbed on Wednesday at the premises of one of the Regimental Training Centres in the City for their involvement in malpractices in Army recruitment.

A release issued by the Ministry of Defence stated that the duo were found guilty of cheating gullible candidates at recruitment rallies after promising them jobs. The duo reportedly collected money from gullible candidates.

The Army handed them over to Ulsoor police. Meanwhile, the Army said that candidates desirous to enroll in defence forces should not fall prey to such individuals acting as touts or agents.

The release also added that enrollment into the Army is a free and fair process, where the selection is purely based on merit.  

Two killed in road accidents
»Two persons, including a 70-year-old doctor, were killed in road accidents in the City on Wednesday.

According to police, a motorbike rider was killed after his vehicle came under the wheels of a tanker in Malleswaram traffic police limits. Pradeep Kumar (30), a resident of Lakshminarayanpura, near Srirampura was proceeding towards Malleswaram, when the tanker collided with his bike.

In another accident, a pedestrian Subramanya Naidu (70), was killed on the spot in Banashankari traffic police limits.

The accident took place near Dattatreya temple. The septuagenarian was on his way home, after a visit to his daughter’s residence, said the police.

Student killed  in mishap

» A student of Vivekananda Engineering College, Kumbalgodu, was killed in a road accident on Kengeri tank bund Road on Tuesday evening.

The deceased has been identified as Abhijith, (20). According to the police, the accident occurred when Abhijith was knocked down by a speeding truck, which was coming behind his motorbike. He sustained severe injuries and was rushed to a private hospital where he breathed his last.  The police have arrested the truck driver.
