Kidnap, 4 from B'lore held

Ashokapuram police have arrested four from Bangalore on kidnap and robbery charges on Wednesday. The accused have been identified as Harish, 26 years of Kengeri, Chetan, 19 of Kurbarahalli, Baba alias Ghouse Ahmed, Kottigepalya and Viji of Agrahara, Magadi road in Bangalore.

The four had kidnapped Ramakrishna Bhat of second stage, Srirampura here on April 3 for ransom.

In their confession statement to the police, the accused have stated that they kidnapped Bhat learning that he had inherited a huge wealth from his mother deceased Sarojamma. A philanthropist, Sarojamma was running Anatha Maththu Shishu Kalyana Trust, at Wilson Garden in Bangalore for the welfare of orphan children. The trust has a vast property of 25 acres of land.

Bhat who had been kidnapped by four on Old Manandavadi road here, had been released by the latter at Laggere near Bangalore on April 4. Before releasing him, the four had robbed him of Rs 18,000.

Following a complaint from Bhat, the police arrested the four member gang near the ring road at Kanakadasa Nagar in the city. Among the arrested, Harish and Chethan have criminal antecedents with cases pertaining to murder attempt and dacoity pending against them in different police stations limits in Bangalore. Harish was also associated with a Kannada organisation, from where he was ousted later.

Farm house burgled

Miscreants broke into a farm house on the outskirts of the city and have decamped with valuables estimated worth Rs 45,000.

In his complaint to Saraswatipuram police on Wednesday, Abraham of Manivel Farm at Bogadi has stated that he along with his family had gone to Tamil Nadu two days ago. On Wednesday, they returned home only to find the articles inside the house ransacked. Gold and silver valuables besides Rs 15,000 in cash totalling worth Rs 45,000 has been stolen.

A case has been registered.
