The net profit recorded a growth of 25 per cent over the previous quarter but was still lower by 17.3 per cent over the corresponding period last year.
The steel maker had a net profit of Rs 2,009.60 crore during the same quarter last fiscal.
SAIl said the improved performance was due to several management initiatives contributing nearly Rs 700 crore, resulting in best-ever second quarter sales and special steel production.
