However, he always knew that he had a calling in teaching and took up his passion to teach biology to medical aspirants in PU colleges. He has been coaching students for the past six years.

"We will be publicising the plan in various government PU colleges in the City and interacting with interested students. Hopefully, by mid-July we will be functional," said Murthy.

The aim is to have 50 students this year who will be groomed for two years.

"Students who enrol will be advised to choose a college that will give them enough time for the coaching, besides their classes," said Murthy.

Even though applications are welcome from all over the State, there will be no residential facilities for outstation students due to financial constraints. "They can, however, stay in various community hostels in the City,” he said.

A parking space of 900 square feet at Murthy's residence is being readied to serve as the classroom. A library and a reading room are also in the making.

Secondhand books

“We are also talking to a few publishing houses to give us their second hand books,” Murthy said.

A number of the doctor’s friends have come forward to help him in his endeavour. There will be two physics teachers, one chemistry teacher, while biology will be taught by Murthy himself.

"The goal is to complete 300 hours of teaching for chemistry, physics and biology each in the two years. There will be two hours of classes on week days and six hours on weekends with a one-day holiday during a week day," said Murthy.

Preference will be given to students from government schools, particularly those from Kannada-medium, says Murthy. There will be no written test. However, an interview will be conducted to gauge the student’s level of interest.

Soujanya B S, a student of Siddaganga PU College in Davangere, attended a free coaching session in biology when Murthy came to her college.

“I found it very helpful and attempting CET became easy. He used to draw diagrams, explain the functions of different organs and narrate from his experience, which made it easier for us to understand. Such coaching will definitely help students.”

Having scored 97 per cent in the Board exam, Soujanya is hoping for a good rank in CET.
Already one student from Tumkur and another from Bidar have shown keen interest in the coaching.

"The boy from Bidar secured 65 per cent in SSLC.
