JOIN USA middle-aged woman, said to be mentally challenged, was raped allegedly by one of her neighbours at Sir M V Nagar in Ramamurthy Nagar.
The victim, 30, was alone at home as her aunt, Saroja (name changed), had taken her dog for walk after having dinner on Tuesday night. According to Saroja, when she returned home one-and-a-half hours later, she found a middle-aged man in a compromising position with her niece.
The man, identified later as Sudheer, 33, ran away seeing Saroja. The victim confirmed to her aunt that she was sexually assaulted by Sudheer, police said.
Ramamurthy Nagar police arrested the suspect from his house, a stone’s throwaway from the victim’s house. Police say Sudheer is a vagabond and a chronic alcoholic. His family had recently brought him back for his brother’s marriage.
The victim was being treated for mental retardation at a private hospital before the alleged rape. She was subjected to a medical examination at Vani Vilas Hospital and the report is awaited.
