Minister for Health and Family Welfare U T Khader has said that all measures will be taken to provide compensation to the Endosulfan victims, soon after the submission of final report on the survey to the government.

Speaking after visiting the day care centre at Kokkada near Uppinangady, he said that the final report on the survey of Endosulfan is yet to be submitted to the government. “The government has given one month deadline to submit the report. The government will chalk out programmes for the welfare of the victims,” he added.

“Special emphasis will be given for the distribution of compensation. We will not follow Kerala model of compensation. Instead, we will have a special Karnataka model of package. The re-survey is being carried out to include all those names that were not included in the previous survey.”

When the issue of Endo Virodhi Samithi holding Bangalore Chalo on June 7, was brought to the notice of the Minister, he said “fight, Bangalore chalo is not important. They will not find a solution to the problem. By taking the victims to Bangalore, even they will feel hurt.

The government is committed to provide compensation to the victims,” he added. Earlier, speaking after visiting Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari Dr D Veerendra Heggade, the Minister said that he would collect details on health services provided in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh and will try to implement the model in the State.

“To check the spread of contagious diseases with the onset of monsoon, the health staff should create awareness on cleanliness. Solid wastes should be disposed scientifically,” he said. When Heggade brought the issue of vacancies in the government hospitals, the minister promised to recruit staff.
