The employees of Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), observed a daylong bandh to protest against the attack on Group ‘D’ employee Suresh by Yediyur Corporator N R Ramesh on Wednesday.

Suresh was allegedly roughed up for not recognising Ramesh as a corporator.

A large number of employees assembled at BBMP head office and burnt the effigy of Ramesh. BBMP Employees' Union President General Secretary Babu said: “We are not paid to be roughed up by those whose integrity itself is under scanner.”

Speaking to reporters, in his chamber, Siddaiah said he was hurt to learn about the incident and stressed that such incidents should not happen again.

“Elected representatives should not think that they alone have concerns for the City and have other ways to bring transparency in the system,” he said, adding he has directed officials to take legal action against the accused persons as per law.

He also assured protection to employees in the Palike offices.
