The rolls dished out at ‘Sunny Foods’, located on Richmond Road, are delicious to say the least and are sure to have you come back for more. Hang around the roll counter and you will see the rolls being folded swiftly and sold throughout the day.  

The rolls are made only when an order is placed and the eatery is not only popular for its taste but also for its quick service. ‘Sunny Foods’ serves not less than 25 varieties of rolls. “We have about 200 people a day coming in, from office-goers to students and even those living in the vicinity. Business is brisk in the afternoon,” informs Roohulla, who started the roll counter. The place will soon be offering burgers and Mumbai-style vada pav too. 

According to Roohulla, who has specialised in making rolls, the style of making the rolls is similar to how they are made in Kolkata. The ingredients for the rolls include meat, Kerala spices and a dash of colour. He is not willing to reveal the trade secret. “We use good quality ingredients,” he says. “This roll counter was started with the idea of providing fast food three years ago,” he adds. Some of the rolls offered include chicken sheek roll, ‘egg roll’, ‘mutton roll’, ‘vegetarian roll’ and ‘vegetarian egg roll’.    The price of the rolls range between Rs 50 and Rs 80. Ask him what he would suggest to his customers and he says ‘chicken egg roll.’

Regulars to the counter say that they really enjoy the rolls. “At one point, I used to come here everyday because my office is close by. I prefer the mutton rolls here to the ones I have eaten at other places,” says Suparna, a regular customer. “I come here with my colleagues when I want to take a break. I like the taste of the meat and the spices,” adds Priya, another regular at the stall. However, for those who are diet-conscious, it may be a little heavy. “I come here along with my friends regularly. Although, it smells really good and is tempting, I don’t want to indulge in it too much,” says Priyanka, another regular. 
There are only a few seats here and many people are seen standing and relishing their rolls. There are those who even parcel their orders. ‘Sunny Foods’ is located on 7 Alfred Street, Richmond Town. For details, call 40943205.
