Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister T B Jayachandra, on Saturday, said the proposal by Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) to provide milk for schoolchildren across the State is under consideration.

He was speaking on the occasion of World Milk Day held by Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) at Ramakrishna Mutt premises.

The proposal, if approved, would benefit about 65 lakh children of around 57,000 government-aided schools in the State. Around 150 to 200 ml of milk would be provided to each child from Monday to Friday, KMF officials said.

No hike this year

KMF Chairperson G Somashekara Reddy said they do not have plans to hike the price of milk this year. The support from State government by giving Rs 4 per litre of milk as subsidy to milk producers and other cooperatives has propelled dairy development.
KMF has achieved peak procurement of 54.6 lakh kg of milk in a day during 2012-13.

The surplus milk powder and butter produced during the season has been sold, Reddy claimed, adding around 50 lakh litre of milk is produced everyday and around 20 lakh litre of curd and milk powder.
