Cops name cricketer in rave party charge sheet

Last Updated 10 June 2013, 19:02 IST

The Mumbai Police on Monday filed a supplementary charge sheet against South African cricketer Wayne Parnell and three others in the 2012 Juhu rave party case.

Parnell who was earlier shown as ‘absconding,’ in the earlier charge sheet, surrendered before the court in April and was released on bail the same day.

Last year in May, the police raided a Juhu sea-side hotel following a tip-off that party-revellers were consuming banned substances.

In the round-up 86 people including IPL players Rahul Sharma, Wayne Parnell, television actor couple-Apoorva and Shilpa Agnihotri were taken into custody and subjected to drug-test.

The raid caused a furore with allegations flying from both sides.

While the police were accused of carrying out a swoop at the behest of television news channels which were in tow during the entire episode, the law-enforcing agency charged that the revellers were high on drugs.
