Prof S C Sharma, deputy chairman of Karnataka State Higher Education Council (KSHEC) and former vice-chancellor of Tumkur University, has resigned from his post.

In his resignation letter submitted to Higher Education Minister R V Deshpande and Department Principal Secretary Rajneesh Goel on Tuesday, Sharma is reported to have said that he was hurt by the ‘unfounded’ allegations against him. Prof K M Kaveriappa, executive director of the council, has also resigned from his post.

Prof Sharma’s first term as the deputy chairman of KSHEC was to expire in February this year. However, it was alleged that his tenure was extended till October 2015 by the then higher education minister C T Ravi violating norms.

When contacted, Sharma denied that there was any violation of norms in extending his tenure. “However, I was hurt by the allegations and decided to put in my papers. Prof Kaveriappa also decided to resign as we worked as a team. I have submitted a report to the minister on the initiatives taken during my stint at the KSHEC during the last two years seven months,” Sharma said.
