Athletes get the feel of new track

After a pooja, Powell, along with Department of Youth Services and Sports officials, athletes and coaches had a feel of the track which will experience the real heat of competition when the State junior meet begins on Tuesday.
Sports minister Goolihatti D Shekhar could not attend the function, given the political situation in the State.

Even though the work on the track was completed in August, the delay in opening it had raised concerns all around and the junior meet was under a cloud till the last minute.

State meet from today
The meet is now all set for a Tuesday morning start, with competitions to be held in four age groups: under-14, under-16, under-18 and under-20. Close to 1000 athletes are expected to take part in the event which will also serve as selection trials for the National junior championships at Warangal from November 21 to 24.
