A drunk police constable was suspended for misbehaving with a 25-year-old woman in front of her husband at east Delhi’s Pandav Nagar on Friday night, police said.

The policeman identified as Mukesh Kumar Hooda, posted at Pandav Nagar police station, was immediately suspended after the victim protested and called a passerby for help on Friday at around 10.20 pm.

The victim, a resident of southeast Delhi’s Sangam Vihar, told police that she came to her parents’ house along with her husband in east Delhi’s Mandawali.

She and her husband left their Mandawali home at 10 pm on a motorcycle and went towards Mother Diary area nearby. They stopped the bike there to have an ice cream. While they were enjoying it, Hooda came in drunken state and asked her husband to remove his bike which was parked on the road.

Anger flared up

He said that he will remove it in a few minutes but Hooda got furious and abused him. His wife intervened but Hooda abused her too, the victim alleged.

An argument ensued between them in which the policeman misbehaved and molested her, the victim alleged.

Passerby helps

She also alleged that when the police official tried to molest her, she started screaming and sought help of a passersby.

A passerby, in the meantime, called the police control room. A local police team reached the spot and registered a complaint on the basis of victim’s statement.

Senior police official suspended  Hooda and ordered an enquiry into the matter.

“We are verifying each and every detail of the incident and accordingly would register a case against the constable,” said an officer.
