Olympic silver medallist Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore’s teenager son Manavaditya Rathore won a silver medal in trap at the 5th Junior International Shotgun Competition at Orimatiila, Finland, while the Indian team shot down the team gold in a fine show on Friday.

The 14-year-old Manavaditya bowed to Roni Vitali of Finland in the final 10-12 after staging a gritty fight to make the title round.

The Indian defeated Philipp Seidel of Germany in a shoot-off in the semifinals after tying with the German 11-11. Earlier, Manavaditya had shot 110 in the qualifying round, the same as Vitali.

The Indian team, comprising Manav, G S Sharan and Abhay Singh Rathore totalled 299 to clinch the team gold ahead of Germany (296) and Norway (292).

Karnataka boy Sharan shot 103 in the qualification round for the seventh spot.In the girls section, Malika Vig and Varsha Varman battled hard to win silver and bronze medal in the individual trap event.

It was an intense battle as both shot identical scores in the final round but Malika pipped Varsha in the tie-breaker to win the silver. In the qualification round, Varsha shot 56 out of 75 while Malika had managed only 42.

As per new rules of ISSF, the qualification score is not added to the final score and all shooters start with a zero score in finals.
