Mob pelts stones at train, 28 hurt

Passengers clash with 'ruffian' milkmen

At least 28 persons, including eight police personnel, were injured when a mob turned violent at Nangloi Railway Station in west Delhi and pelted stones at a stationary passenger train on Friday morning. Police have arrested eight persons.

According to police, a call about the incident was made to the police control room at around 7.45 am after which two police teams were sent to the spot. When the mob went on rampage, a CISF team was also called to disperse the crowd.

  Extra police force deployed outside the station resorted to lathicharge to bring the situation under control. Besides, passengers were also evacuated from the platforms.    
 Police said the mob kept on pelting stones for at least an hour, injuring several passengers and police personnel. 

 According to sources, several milkmen who travel on trains used to beat passengers daily. It is alleged that they used to armtwist the passengers into vacating seats. For past three days, they were regularly beating passengers in trains.

  On Friday morning, several milkmen boarded a train from Rohtak and ordered passengers to vacate seats. When a few of them objected, they began to beat them up. Meanwhile, one of the passengers called his friends at the station to confront the milkmen.

Soon, the enraged mob started pelting stones.

Unruly elements

Some locals also alleged that a few passengers used to pull the emergency chain to stop the train, rob fellow passengers and  run away.

 Police said they are looking into the matter and further investigations are underway. The injured underwent treatment at Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital.

Police have lodged two separate cases and arrested eight persons.

Around 12 other persons have been detained.
