Repeat question paper in MBBS exam

Last Updated 01 July 2013, 18:33 IST

When first-year MBBS students appeared for Physiology Paper II examination on Friday, little did they know that they were answering a question paper that had appeared four years ago.

An investigation by Deccan Herald has revealed that the question paper of the latest exam and the one held in December 2009 for MBBS I supplementary examination are exactly the same. Even the numbers, used to distinguish between question papers, are same — QP 1078.

The repetition of question papers has raised considerable suspicion among students about possible leakage of question paper set by the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) which conducts the exam.

Students say they fear the question paper was leaked as many candidates were heard talking about the 2009 question paper before the exam.

“As question papers are randomly generated using a computer programme, repetition of a question paper is highly unlikely. It appears to be a fishy affair,” a student at a city
college said, preferring anonymity.

No complaint

Students, however, have not yet complained to Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences about the matter.

The university employs a software that generates question papers from a preset question bank.

The RGUHS Registrar (Examination), N S Ashok Kumar, claimed that “20-40 per cent of questions are repeated in all exams”.

But a whole question paper is impossible to be repeated, he stressed. He, however, hastened to add that “technical glitches” might have caused the repetition.
Verification

Kumar promised that the university would “verify” the incident after consulting those involved in setting the question papers.

Dr Geeta K Avadhani, Dean of Mysore Medical College and Research Institute, said that she was unaware of the repetition.

She claimed that repetition of question papers was highly unlikely within such a short period of four years.
