All India Congress Committee (AICC) state party affairs in-charge Digvijay Singh made a sensational announcement on Monday: That a decision on the tricky issue was likely within a week. But he was categorical in saying that all the groups shall have to abide by the high command’s decision, whatever it might be.

Addressing Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) office-bearers at party headquarters here on Monday, as part of his two-day visit to state, he said the Congress Core Committee would meet within a week and take a decision on Telangana in the meeting.  AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi, Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy and PCC chief Botsa Satyanarayana would be present at the crucial core-committee meeting. As state in-charge, Digvijay will present the views of Congress members from all three regions of the state to the core committee.

Digvijay also met leaders from Seemandhra and Telangana separately at the Lakeview guest house.

Speaking to sections of the media, Anam Vivekananda Reddy and Shailaja Nath — both from Seem Andhra — made it clear that they would not remain mute spectators if the high command decided to split the state. “Their (Telangana) sacrifices are motivated and based on lies. But we are also ready for any kind of sacrifice,” they said.
