Counselling of seats for professional courses for the academic year 2013-14 under the Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka (Comed-K ) quota will begin on Tuesday.

While the state government is yet to decide the dates for counselling of seats under the government quota, Comed-K has decided to go ahead with its schedule, as planned earlier.

Comed-K  Executive Director A S Srikanth said: “We have to comply with the Supreme Court’s direction to complete the admission process before July 31, 2013, failing which we are liable for contempt of court. I see no reason why Comed-K  counselling has to be held back at this juncture because the Karnataka Examination Authority has not begun its counselling.”

The first round of counselling for medical and dental seats will be held on July 2 and 3. The first round of counselling for engineering seats will be conducted between July 5 and July 15. Counselling for architecture course will also be held on July 15.

The second round of the process will commence from July 19. The counselling will be completed by July 27, 2013, as per the schedule.

Meanwhile, Higher Education Minister R V Deshpande announced on Monday that the state government would finalise the dates for commencement of CET counselling in two to three days. “The department is working out a seat matrix for medical and dental courses.

Once it is finalised, CET counselling dates will be announced. The government will ensure that parents and students do not face any inconvenience. The entire counselling process will be completed by July 27,” the minister said. Around 1.40 lakh candidates appeared for Karnataka CET 2013 conducted by the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) in May.

The seat matrix and fee structure for engineering courses will remain unchanged. Of the total 96,460 engineering seats in 212 colleges, 43,027 come under the government quota, 26,925 come under the Comed-K quota, 20,088 under management quota and 4,823 come under the supernumerary quota.

Of the total 1,360 seats available in 19 architecture colleges, 598 will come under the government quota, 396 under Comed-K, 340 under management quota and 26 for lateral entry. Like the previous year, online counselling will be conducted in 13 centres.

Besides, the government has finalised seat matrix for the MBA course. Of about 24,000 seats in 236 colleges, 12,325 come under the government quota and the rest belongs to K-MAT. The MBA course will commence on September 10.

The department has decided to complete the counselling process by August 31. The KEA will come out with a detailed notification in this regard on July 4, Deshpande added.
