JOIN USThe High Court on Friday disposed of a petition for CBI inquiry into illegal granite mining in Bagepalli town of Chikkaballapur district after the government agreed for a probe by the district’s Superintendent of Police (SP).
A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice D H Waghela and Justice B V Nagarathna disposed of the petition after the government counsel acknowledged that illegal mining of granite was indeed being carried out and there was need for a probe. The counsel said that the Chikkaballapur SP would investigate the matter.
The petitioner, Ameer Mohammed Sadiq, contended that contractors had permission for mining only 75 acres of land in and around Bagepalli. However, mining was carried out in more than 2,220 acres through illegal contracts for the last eight years, he alleged.
Despite police complaint by the local residents, no action had been taken, Sadiq said seeking a CBI inquiry into the matter.
Govt to fill posts
The senior additional director in the Commissionerate of Agriculture would fill the nine vacant posts in the department, the government told High Court on Friday, prompting it to dispose of a petition in that regard.
The petitioner, Ameersab, had contended that of the 68 vacant posts in various sections of the agriculture department across the state, only 59 posts were filled, the remaining were kept vacant. He alleged that the government was not filling the vacancies. He sought directions from the court to the government to fill the vacant posts as soon as possible.
A Division Bench, headed by Chief Justice D H Waghela, disposed of the petitioner after the government counsel submitted that the vacant posts would be filled soon.
