Under pressure from various groups, the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) on Friday announced downward revision in fares for first stage, from Rs 6 to Rs 5.
On June 16, the Corporation had increased the ordinary service fare for first stage by Re 1. It had claimed that the hike was necessary to “balance the huge financial burden due to increased diesel rates, also considerable increase in rates of essential spare parts like tyres, tubes etc and also increased staff cost.”
According to a press release from BMTC, “Considering the request of the organisations, bus fare for the first stage on all the ordinary buses has been reduced to Rs 5 and the same will be Rs 4 for senior citizens.”
However, the ordinary fare, increased (on June 15) by Rs 2 for stages three to seven and Rs 3 for stages eight to 24, will remain unaffected.
