However, even after two months of commencing the academic year, textbooks have not reached the students and colleges.<br /><br />When contacted, DDPU Swamy said, textbooks have not been supplied. “At present, political science, history and sociology textbooks have not reached. <br /><br />In commerce, textbooks for economics, accountancy, business studies have not been supplied. Kannada, English and Computer Science textbooks have reached the students,” he said.<br /><br />New scheme<br /><br />A lecturer said, the government’s decision to introduce new scheme without preparing textbooks is the reason behind the delay in supply. “The tender for printing textbooks were handed over to a Hyderabad-based company only in the last week of April. <br /><br />Normally, tender is issued in the first week of March. As a result, there is a delay in supply of textbooks,” said Swamy. <br /><br />“Recently, a meeting was held in Bangalore and the authorities concerned have assured to supply textbooks by the end of July,” he added.<br /><br />Normally, unit tests are held after three months. However, the delay in supply of textbooks will delay the conducting of tests for students.<br /><br />Satellite-based training is imparted to teachers whenever a new curriculum is introduced. In view of the delay in supply of textbooks, the training will be held on July 17. <br /><br />If lecturers are not given training, it will affect their teaching methodology, the lecturer said.<br />DH News Service</p>
