A delegation of State Congress leaders belonging to backward classes met Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Sunday and urged him to earmark Rs 5,000 for the development of backward classes in the State budget likely to be presented on Friday.
The delegation comprising Social Welfare Minister H Anjaneya, MP H Vishwanath, H M Revanna and KPCC backward classes cell president M C Venugopal, urged the chief minister to introduce a new scheme to provide agriculture land to landless poor belonging to backward classes in the budget.
Waiver of weavers’ loan and construction of 45 new hostels for backward classes students pursuing higher education are among other demands by the delegation.
