West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee came down heavily against the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government at the Centre for failing to contain the Maoist menace.

The chief minister, is making rounds of the state ahead of the panchayat polls that will take place across Bengal from July 11. Blaming the Centre for failing to do its task, Banerjee claimed that the Maoists have formed a suicide squad with people not just from Bengal but also from Assam, Jharkhand, Bihar and Odisha to assassinate her.

Although she did not elaborate on the statement, Banerjee said that even if she were killed, the people of West Bengal would not allow her killers to come to power. She hinted that the Left, the Congress and the Maoists had joined hands against her. Opposition parties in Kolkata scoffed at her allegations.
