Speeding car kills three members of a family

Three members of a family were killed after a speeding car knocked them down in K S Layout Traffic Police limits on Sunday night. The victims — Daskhina Murthy, 50, his wife Nagaveni, 42, and their daughter, Aishwarya, 13, were residents of Kanaka Nagara Layout on Kanakapura Road.

The accident occurred on Umar Bagh Layout, Ring Road, when the family was returning home on a two-wheeler. According to the police, Vinay, the driver of the car, who was speeding on the one-way failed to control the vehicle after he noticed the two-wheeler coming in the opposite direction. All the three on the motorbike were tossed up in the air after the car rammed their vehicle and were killed on the spot. The trio were rushed to a nearby hospital where they were declared brought dead. Police suspect Vinay, who fled the spot, may have suffered injuries.

Murthy, who hailed from Tamil Nadu, had settled in the City 25 years ago. He was a guard at Jain College, while Nagaveni was a worker at a garments factory in K S Layout. Aishwarya was a Class VIII student at Raghavendra School. Nagaveni’s father Subramani, who stays in Banashankari II Stage, had invited Murthy and his family for dinner.

The couple’s other daughter Archana, Class IX student, stayed back with her grandparents, while Murthy, Nagaveni and Aishwarya proceeded to their house, police said. Post mortem was conducted at KIMS and bodies handed over to relatives. The police have seized the car and launched a search for Vinay.
