M P Prakash stood for secular values: CM

Former deputy chief minister, the late M P Prakash, was a rare politician who firmly believed in secular principles and social justice, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said on Thursday.

Speaking after inaugurating a function organised to mark the 73rd birth anniversary of Prakash, ‘M P Prakash – 73’, he said Prakash was a multi-faceted personality. He was known for honesty, integrity and deep knowledge in administration and literature.

“We both have socialism background. He never used to stand on ego. Though a person who was much younger to him became the chief minister, he worked under him without any problem. Prakash was a capable person to be the chief minister of the State,” Siddaramaiah said.

Noted writer Chandrashekara Kambara said Hampi university and Hampi utsava had permanently preserved the memories of Prakash. Prakash used to quickly respond whenever there was any problem in the field of art and culture in the State, he said.

Shivaratri Deshikendra Swami of Suttur Mutt released a book on Prakash, ‘Samskrutika Rayabhari’. A photo exhibition on the life of Prakash was inaugurated at Ravindra Kalakshetra earlier in the day.
