Woman in debt trap immolates self

Three people reportedly committed suicide in the City since Wednesday.

A middle-aged woman immolated herself at her house in Ambedkar Nagar in KG Halli police station limits, on Wednesday evening. The deceased is Latha, 36. Police said Latha was married to Richard, a painter. However, he did not have a regular job as he was a chronic alcoholic. The couple have three daughters, of whom the youngest is a polio victim. Latha was working as a domestic help and was sustaining the family. However, she was caught in a debt trap and was humiliated by the moneylenders, when she could not repay. Family sources said this may have led her to the extreme step.

She locked herself up in a room and immolated herself when only her mother was in the house. Her mother saw dense smoke coming out of the room and called out for help. Neighbours barged into the house and doused the fire.

She was rushed to Bowring Hospital and from there to Victoria Hospital. However, she died late in the night. Police said she had suffered 94 per cent burns. Ramamurthy Nagar police have registered a case.

A 16-year-old girl hanged herself to death at her house at Kalkere in Horamavu on Wednesday night. The deceased is Rukhsar Banu, 16. Police said Banu had discontinued studies after class VII.

Her parents had separated 10 years ago and both had remarried. She was presently staying with her mother and stepfather in Kalkere. Police said issues regarding her parents may have driven her to suicide. The incident came to light on Wednesday night, when her mother went to her room to call her for dinner. Ramamurthy Nagar police have registered a case.

An 18-year-old man addicted to whitener ended his life by hanging himself at Vinoba Nagar on Wednesday night. Syed Imanullah, 18, a resident of Nehrupuram, Shivajinagar, had been to his aunt's house in Vinoba Nagar, where he took the extreme step. Police said Imanullah was unemployed and the resultant depression might have lead him to end his life. K G Halli police have registered a case.

Child eats wall putty, dies

A two-year-old girl died after consuming wall putty at J C Nagar on Wednesday evening.
Preeti was the only daughter of Ravi and Lakshmi. The couple hail from Yadgir district and are working as labourers at an under-construction building for the past two months.

 Police said Preeti was playing in the courtyard of the under construction building, while her mother was busy in the kitchen.

When Preeti started crying, Lakshmi ran to her and found that the baby’s mouth was severely burnt. She found that the baby had swallowed wall putty lying nearby. The parents rushed the girl to K C General Hospital, where she was declared brought dead.

It is said that the wall putty may have burnt Preeti’s food pipe and wind pipe, leading to her death. Mahalakshmi Layout police registered a case.
