BSP leader expelled, likely to join BJP

The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) has expelled Vijay Bahadur Singh, MP, on Wednesday for giving a public statement defending Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi for his “puppy” remark. Singh may join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

The BSP on Wednesday issued a statement saying that Singh, MP from Hamirpur in Uttar Pradesh, has been expelled for comments that were against the “philosophy and principles” of the dalit party.

The party also stated that Singh was warned earlier not to take a stand divergent from party thinking. The MP is believed to have articulated his views publicly knowing the consequences. Singh on Saturday had gone on air to take a position closer to the BJP by saying that Modi using an analogy — that even if a puppy comes under a car, it pains the passenger — to reply to a question on the 2002 Godhra riots showed that the chief minister was a “sensitive” person and that his comments were misinterpreted.
