Colts settle for draw as rain has final say

A potentially exciting last day of the Safi Darashah tournament between KSCA Colts and Odisha was ruined by the weather at the M Chinnaswamy stadium here on Saturday.

Colts, overnight on 261/3, did not bat again and Odisha were left to scale down a target of 252 in 53 overs after the completion of the second pitch inspection at 1.00 pm.

However, a wet outfield, because of the heavy rains on Friday evening, slippery bowlers’ footmarks and persistent rains on Saturday meant that only six overs were possible before the last day’s play was officially called off at 3.21 pm. Odisha were 14 for 1 then.

In that time, medium-pacer Abhishek Bhatt claimed the wicket of Rupak Jena, who walked off with a pair against his name. The Odisha opener edged Bhatt to Abhishek Reddy at second slip. A draw meant KSCA Colts would walk away with a point while Odisha have three points to their credit because of their first innings lead.
