The villagers locked the school in protest on Friday, demanding action against the headmistress V Laxmidevamma. The school comes under Bangarpet Block Education Officer’s purview. The Gandhi Jayanti, Kanakadasa Jayanti and Independence Day were not celebrated in the school, the villagers alleged.

They said, when asked about not hoisting tricolour on August 15, the teachers didn’t give satisfactory reply. The teachers did not even pay tribute to the social reformer Kanakadasa on the occasion 521st birth anniversary, they said.

The teachers, neglecting celebration of the national festivals, have failed to inculcate love for land and respect for the noble leaders of the nation among the schoolchildren, they alleged. The officials of the Education Department Bangawadi Narayanappa and Venkatesh Gowda, who rushed to the spot, pacified the villagers and deputed the headmistress to another school.
