The accused Jayalakshmi Devi was caught red-handed when she was reportedly accepting the bribe from Jayaramu, a receptionist attached to SNT Comforts in Bangalore.
According to the sleuths, AK Sridhar, a resident of Jindal Nagar and a member/liaison officer of Pragun Jindal Education Institution, had applied to the University seeking permission to start a BCA and BCom degree college in a newly constructed building near Chikkabidarakallu, Bangalore City.
The Local Inspection Committee (LIC) of the University under the chairmanship of Jayalakshmi Devi inspected the college building.
After the inspection, Devi demanded Rs five lakh as bribe amount for approval. Sridhar met her at her residence on May 13 and she demanded the bribe again to issue permission letter.
She settled for Rs two lakh after bargaining. He approached the Lokayukta as he was not willing to bribe her.  Accordingly, the trap was laid when she was receiving the money from Jayaramu on behalf of Sridhar.
Jayalakshmi Devi has been arrested, added the Lokayukta sleuths.
