Members of the Legislative Council Basavaraj Horatti (JD-S) and G Madhusudan (BJP) have questioned the comments made by Governor H R Bhardwaj on the appointment of the vice chancellor of Visvesraiah Technological University (VTU).

Raising the issue in the House on Wednesday, the members said the governor had dared the legislators to come outside the House and make comments on Raj Bhavan.

“As legislators, we also have some privileges and honour. Is it right for the governor to make such comments on legislators?” Horatti asked.

The governor, at the 48th convocation of Bangalore University (on July 17), had said: “They (legislators) should know the rules. They cannot speak about the head of the State in such a manner on the floor of the House. If they have any complaint, they should speak to me directly.”

He has also said he had to continue with Maheshappa as vice chancellor since the search committee delayed in selecting a new candidate.
