The death of a BMRCL worker on Sunday adds to the increasing number of mishaps at Metro sites in the City. In 2009 alone, six incidents were reported, in which four people died and six were injured.

In January 2009, a 20-year-old security guard was killed after he came under the wheels of an earthmover on the MG Road stretch. A few days later, four workers were injured during a demolition operation in Rajajinagar First Block when a wall fell on them. A worker was killed in a similar accident on Mahakavi Kuvempu Road in Rajajinagar in May 2009.

Two months later, a labourer died when a wall fell on him during demolition near Lalbagh West Gate. Two deaths were reported in 2011.

There were five major accidents in 2012. A labourer lost his hand while working on the KR Puram stretch while a worker was killed after he came under the wheels of a crane on Tumkur Road on May 30.

Two more were killed on S V Road and Nrupathunga Road stretch on June 16 and November 9, respectively, while a worker was electrocuted on MG Road stretch on December 5. In 2013, a worker was electrocuted on the Srirampuram stretch on June 25. A vegetable vendor sustained severe injuries after a metal bolt fell on him on June 26 this year.
