Bangalore University rejects LIC suggestions

Last Updated 19 May 2009, 20:06 IST

The Syndicate reportedly rejected the recommendations on the premise that the recommendations were achieved by unlawful means and the colleges had not actually made formal applications.
Syndicate member A P Ranganatha told Deccan Herald that the recommendations were highly dubious and not worthy of even reaching the Syndicate.  “These colleges had not even applied for these new courses and yet Local Inquiry Committees have recommended them. Most of the members were opposed to these recommendations,” he said.
Sources said the meeting was highly volatile with accusations and charges flying between the LIC members. Several members of the Syndicate protested against the inclusion of the colleges against two specific LIC members that had recommended them. There was also a lot of heat generated over a committee’s recommendations for increased intake. Although some colleges have been permitted only for an intake of 240 students so far, recommendations for the intake of twice as many were made by LICs.
Violation of rules
Sources said the recommendations by the LIC for the additional courses were made predominantly for post-graduate (PG) courses and were in violation of the rules. The rules say that colleges must have a continuous affiliation with the University for a period of three years to seek PG course affiliation. But an LIC has recommended the sanction of new courses in violation of this criteria.
