The fifth edition of ‘Media Meet’ witnessed immense talent unfurl at Christ University. With broadcast media as the theme for this year, the fest was a melting pot of articulation, workshops and know-how of the industry.

The ceremony began with the screening of a video-teaser of the preparations of the fest which received thundering applause from the audience at large. The young budding and aspiring journalists were raring to go at the start of the fest. Packed with events like quiz, live reporting, RJ hunt, mock reality show, mock press, script writing, workshops and panel discussion, there were various avenues for the students to showcase their talent.

Research paper presentations was yet another important event. Issues ranging from defamation in broadcasting, sensationalism in contemporary media, the extra-judicial regulation of media, recall and credibility of breaking news in electronic media were researched upon.

Workshops provided to be an apt platform for practical orientation to students planning a future in the media industry.

The plethora of workshops entailed the specialised lighting and techniques, radio broadcasting, animation, studio techniques, and TV news reporting. Some other events which received enthusiastic participation were RJ Hunt, mock reality show, quiz and script writing.

“I must say justice has been done to the hype generated for this event. Eminent personalities gave quality to panel discussions, competitions and workshops. The topics for script writing competitions were really challenging I had to write a script for five episodes of how ‘a woman respected well turns out to be a wrong doer’.

My internship with the LGBT community helped me a lot and it helped me generate creative ideas,” said Anju Rao, final-year student, Christ University.  Panel discussion was the showstopper for the day as the guests from various mediums of media came together and debated on the TRP, business sense and credibility of news in contemporary times. The closing ceremony saw colourful spectacle of various dance forms in India. Moreover, the theme for the next year ‘Print Media’ was also declared.

St Aloysius College, Mangalore was declared as the overall winner. Pooja Majumdar, a student of Jain CMS Campus, said, “This meet really proved to be an excellent platform for media students to exhibit their talents and gave a great exposure about the vast field of media.”

Chandan M, a student of Maharaja College, Mysore added, “We take back so many things from the fest. Since it is a national event, interacting with students from different places gave me a wider perspective of understanding broadcast media.”
