'Kalikotsava' to showcase academic skills

Sarava Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) is all set to create a platform for students to showcase their academic skills with 'Kalikotsava,' a first of its kind programme that will kick off from this year.

This academic fiesta will bring some of the bright students from government and aided schools together at block levels and the academic skills of these students will be tested.

Speaking to Deccan Herald, SSA State Project Director Subodh Yadav said that the Prathiba Karinje programme of SSA, helps to showcase the cultural talents of students. Kalikhotsava is a similar programme and aims to showcase the academic talents and hence enhance learning. With this programme, the quality of education improves and also helps in the retention of learning.

Students who are bright in academics will be selected at the school-level and they will be given an opportunity to exhibit their skills at block-level through various activities such as reading aloud, essay writing, English elocution, dictionary reading, role-play, extempore, mock parliament, simple maths and debate.

Kalikotsava aims to create an environment for learning and also motivate students to hone their skills. The students who will perform well in Kalikotsava will be further supported in their schools, he said.

The unique programme will be held throughout the State at block levels by the end of December.

Dakshina Kannada SSA Project Coordinator N Shivprakash said that in Dakshina Kannada, Kalikotsava will be conducted in November in seven education blocks of the district. As many as 500 students will partake from each block. The State SSA will release a fund of Rs 50,000 to each block to conduct the programme.
