Kick-Ass 2
English (A) ¬¬
Director:Jeff Wadlow
Cast:  Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Chloë Grace Moretz, Christopher Mintz-Plasse

Kick-Ass 2 on the whole fails to impress because of terribly flawed execution of ideas and lack of finesse. As much as the movie jokes about comic book fans, the sequel does not effectively do it the way the first one did. The idea of seeing all the actors coming back in the sequel was exciting but it just doesn’t click.

Mindy Macready aka Hit-girl (Chloë Grace Moretz), now 15, is on a mission to train high school nerdy superhero aspirant Dave (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) to become Kick-ass. But she has to evade objection from her caretaker detective Marcus to follow her “obsession for revenge”. Red Mist (Christopher Mintz-Plasse) is now back as eccentric supervillain MotherF*****, teaming up with other villains to foil their plans.

There is no dearth of villains and superheroes but what lacks is their characterisation. The movie tries to evoke humour by taking racist potshots at Africans, Koreans, Russians and even teenage boy bands but the jokes are amateurish.

The movie ends with a flurry of characters that looks like a comic-con gone awry. The bloodshed and pain is worth watching and hit-girl has some nice nunchak and sword sequences. She is the saving grace of the movie with her stylish and swift moves. You also get a bit of Jim Carrey as a former mafia enforcer and leader the good guy group.
