Krishna Vesha contest in City on August 28

Over 2,500 participants expected to take part in contests to be held in 18 categories at 8 venues

With an intention to develop religious and cultural awareness and to encourage the hidden talents of the little children, Kalkura Foundation will organise a national-level children’s festival ‘Shree Krishna vesha competition’ at Kadri Manjunatha temple premises, on August 28 at 1 pm.

A one- month old child taking part in the competition is the uniqueness of this year.
Addressing a press meet here on Saturday, Kalkura Foundation President Pradeep Kumar Kalkura said the competitions will be held in eight venues for the convenience of the participating children. What was began with eight children, now has crossed 2,500 taking part in the competition.

He said the competition will be held in 18 categories. They are: ‘Kanda Krishna’ (for tiny tots below one year and parents can lead the child to the stage);  ‘Muddukrishna’ (for toddlers under three years and mothers are allowed to come on the stage along with the participants); ‘Thuntakrishna’ (for the toddlers of two years to three years); ‘Balakrishna’ (for kids from Anganwadi and LKG), ‘Kishor Krishna ‘ (for children from UKG and I std); ‘Sri Krishna’ (for II, III and IV standard children); ‘Geetha Krishna’ (for students upto VII std, here one has to create Geethopadesha situation with costumes); ‘Yakshakrishna’ (for children upto X std, participants have to wear only Yakshagana (Badaguthittu, Thenku thittu, Badabadagu) costumes.

‘Pagadi Kedage’ and ‘Mandale’ are allowed); ‘Radhakrishna’ (children upto VII std (pair); ‘Yashodha Krishna’ (woman as Yashodha and any child as Krishna can participate with action (no age limit for woman and child (Krishna upto 12 years); ‘Shankanada’ (For children upto VII std); ‘Shankhaudgosha (for above seventh std and open to all); ‘Devaki Krishna’ (mother (previous participants of the competition) as Devaki and child as Krishna can take part); ‘Vasudeva Krishna’ (Any men with traditional costumes as Vasudeva and kid as Krishna can act.

There is no age limit. However, plastic baskets are not allowed. Even woman can act as Vasudeva with men’s costume); ‘Nanda Gokula’ (episode presentation of Lord Krishna’s life by a group, ie., entire family members); Balakrishna quiz competition (for children upto VII standard); ‘Sri Krishna quiz contest’ (above VII std) and ‘Krishna photography’ in front of a stage in the temple premises.

Kalkura said that for the quiz competition participants, more than 150 daily pooja or traditional pooja items like conch, jagate, silver tulasi beed chain, abhisheka shanka, mudra, tala, aarathi, deepa will be given as prizes.

 After 12 in the midnight, the pooja prasad (laddu and chakkulis) will be distributed to the kids.

He said a special arrangement has been made for the group photo of the participants in their Krishna vesha costumes in front of the high mast light pole at Kadri temple. Even mentally retarded and other disabled children are encouraged to participate in the competition.
