Small businesses slump

Last Updated 10 November 2009, 18:35 IST

The incessant rains from the last one week have forced people to stay indoors translating into a slump in business for the traders.

While a spell of heavy rain is easy to deal with, traders, with small shops on the road sides, say the continuous drizzle accompanied by a downpour once in a while is hurting their businesses. Roads wear a deserted look as the continuous rain has converted all streets into a muddy slush.

“People in Malnad are probably used to rains like this. But in a region like ours where we are not used to such rains, life has become very difficult,” said the residents.

Holidays announced

Due to the incessant rains, the Education Department has declared a holiday on Tuesday and Wednesday for all government schools in Bangarpet.

The decision was taken as the students were finding it difficult to commute to the school in the continuous rains.
