Rape accused gets 13-year term

Kemparaju alias Jeethu has been sentenced to 13 years in prison and Rs 15,000 fine for kidnapping and raping a minor girl.

Nanjunda, who was also an accused in the case for assisting the prime accused in the crime is sentenced to two years imprisonment and Rs 5,000 in fine.

Kempuraju, a resident of Kellupura village in Nanjangud taluk, had demanded to marry a minor girl belonging to same village, which was opposed by the parents of the girl.

Infuriated by the rejection, he kidnapped the girl, took her to a secluded spot and raped her. He also threatened the girl of murdering her, if she disclosed the incident.

Convicted for murder

The fourth district sessions court has sentenced Suresh, a resident of Debur village in Nanjangud taluk, to be imprisoned for life and a fine of Rs 10,000.

Suresh was convicted of setting his wife, Kavita ablaze which resulted in her death on September 2011.

Kavita was married to Suresh for eight years and had borne three children. The relationship between the couple deteriorated after Kavita discovered Suresh of having an extra-martial relationship.
