Girl ends life after mother chides her over quarrel

Four people, including an 11-year-old girl, ended their lives in the City on Sunday evening.

Navneeta, a Class VII student of a private school, hanged herself using her mother’s saree at her house in Jai Bheem Nagar, Sadaramangala, after her mother chided her for watching a TV channel.

The only daughter of Kumar, a construction labourer, and Rani, a housewife, Navneeta has an elder brother Naveen, who is 14 years old.

On Sunday night, Navneeta wanted to watch a cartoon channel while her brother wanted to watch a sports channel, leading to a fight. Police said Rani reprimanded Navneeta over the fight. The angry girl then went into the room and locked herself up.

However, when she did not open the door past midnight, Kumar broke open the door only to find Navneeta hanging from the ceiling fan. Kadugodi police have registered a case of unnatural death.

Dowry death alleged

A homemaker was found hanging at her house in Uttarahalli. Shwetha, 25, was married to Lokesh, an auto driver, six years ago. The couple have two children – a two-year-old son and an year-old daughter.

On Sunday evening, when Lokesh returned from work, he found his two children playing in front of the house and the house locked from inside. When Shwetha did not answer his repeated calls, he broke open the door and found her hanging dead.

Shwetha’s mother Ratnamma, in her statement to the tahsildar and police, has alleged that Lokesh was physically and mentally harassing her daughter for dowry.

She has alleged that this drove her daughter to take the extreme step.

Subramanyapura police have arrested Lokesh and have registered a case under the Dowry Prohibition Act.
