A section of Muslim leaders in the State Congress is learnt to have opposed the reported move by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to appoint party leader C M Ibrahim as Karnataka's Special Representative in New Delhi.

Siddaramaiah had been planning to accommodate Ibrahim, who is his close associate, in the government. But a section of Muslim leaders are said to be against it.

Ibrahim unsuccessfully contested the 2013 Assembly elections from Bhadravati.
Siddaramaiah had lobbied with the party high command to get him the ticket to contest the polls.

Speculation

There was also speculation sometime ago that Ibrahim would be made political secretary to the Chief Minister.

The Muslim leaders contend that those who have lost the elections should not be given priority over those who have won, and there are a number of senior party MLAs who deserve position in the government.
