Bringing old heels back to life

Last Updated 05 September 2013, 14:43 IST

An expensive heel or a lovely pair of ballerinas might be lying unused in a women’s foot rack just because it has been worn more than once or has gone out of fashion. These occupy not just crucial space but are also heartbreaking for those who love their footwear.

Often the fairer sex invests in expensive footwear to be accessorised along with the outfit. But consider accessorising an old pair of footwear to bring sheen and glamour back to their life! “A simple way is to use ankle straps which work wonders on flat belles. Different beads including pearl can be sewn on the elastic loop to make it look beautiful,” suggests Nayantara Sood from Taramay. The beaded strings are removable and can be changed according to the latest fashion.

Even different coloured ribbons could be wound and knotted around the straps of a T-strap sandal to make it chic or chains can be added for an edgy look. “This revamping can be done at home. To make a footwear look more girly, lace patches and floral art work can be used on them. It looks beautiful and makes the footwear look brand new,” says Shruti Kaul Sachdeva of Trishuli Shoes.

But these are ways to redo those pairs which are purchased from street fashion. For the expensive wear, one can opt for heel accessories such as bows and feathers. “It is a budget-friendly way to make your shoe stand out,” informs Rajarshi Chatterjee from rooja.com. The website has innovative options such as black feather which can be worn on black high heels, black red lace which can be paired with red stilettoes and beaded straps in vibrant colours. “The same condom can be used to stylise more than one shoe and can save females the cost of buying a new pair,” adds Rajarshi.

One needs to be careful when it comes to the heels for, “it keeps hitting on various surfaces so those accessories should be chosen which are unbreakable,” advices Shruti suggesting that one can stick on Swarovski in various patterns, to make the footwear look swanky!
